Why Probigua-America?
You may have gathered after reading on our homepage and about Colegio San Pedro that there are three organizations with the name “Probigua” that have been active in helping the students of Guatemala.
The original PROBIGUA is located in Guatemala, and has accomplished amazing things during its 30 year history. Our organization exists to support them.
Now, where does Probigua-America come into the picture?
In September of 2020, I met with Mr. Rigoberto Zamora, the founder of Probigua (and I am lucky to call him my father-in-law). I specifically wanted to reach out to him in the midst of the pandemic to offer my help. It will be no surprise to hear that Guatemala has been hit hard, especially economically. I had been involved in helping to fund scholarships indirectly for three years, but after being in quarantine all year and really thinking about what kind of life I wanted to lead from here on out…I felt that I needed to talk to Mr. Rigoberto about becoming directly involved. I am honored that he would take me up on it, and proud that he would have the trust in me to form an organization in the United States that would focus on giving scholarships to Guatemalan students.
The success of Probigua-America will depend on the will of the people who become involved. I can assure you that I am willing to put as much time into Probigua-America as I possibly can, because I have seen the results that come from the hard work and dedication that many have already put into the project. And what is more, the students want to learn. They desire to become professionals and they take pride in giving back to their families.
Please take a look at our blog to see our progress as we begin our journey to provide deserving young students the opportunity for a good education.
Thank you for your interest in what we’re doing in Guatemala, and we thank everyone for their support.
Sincerely,
Chance Michael Landry
